Hi there! I'm Rufus, and I've been patiently waiting for my forever home since November. I'm a 5.5-year-old Hound mix, weighing in at a solid 60 lbs. My journey here has been a bit of a rollercoaster; my previous owner went to jail, and I ended up at another shelter with my canine companion. When that shelter became overcrowded and I was at risk, I was transferred to this wonderful place for a second chance. We never imagined it would take this long!
I'm a laid-back, gentle soul who is incredibly loving. My favorite things include playing fetch, leaning into my favorite people, and giving soft, sweet kisses. I'm a pro on the leash and absolutely adore cuddles. Once I feel safe and trust you, I don't just like you – I bond with you deeply. I've lived with other dogs before and am friendly with those close to my size. However, I'm not a fan of cats or smaller critters, so they'll need to be out of the picture.
Ideal Home
I do best in a calm and predictable environment. Busy places with lots of noise can make me a little nervous, especially around young children. Therefore, I'm looking for a home without small children or a constant stream of visitors. I thrive in quieter settings where I can truly relax and be myself.
Ongoing Health
I have a poultry allergy, which means I need to avoid foods and treats containing chicken, turkey, or duck. This allergy, combined with a previous food intolerance, led to a skin infection. While some of my fur might not fully grow back in those areas, it doesn't affect my loving nature or my desire for a happy home. I am neutered, microchipped, and heartworm & Lyme negative. I'm up-to-date on vaccinations and preventatives.
Training & Support
I walk very well on a leash and am generally a well-behaved companion. My main need is a patient and understanding owner who can provide a stable and loving environment.
