Baby, an 8-month-old, 40lb Retriever Mix, is a wonderful dog who would thrive in a city or suburban home. She was rescued from Kosovo and has the most amazing soft fur and a delightful personality. Her foster parent describes her as a snuggle bug who is ready to be the center of her family's world, and an absolute angel with their 4-year-old daughter, often serving as a pillow. Baby loves playing with her toys and is expected to be a great fetcher!
Ideal Home
Baby would do best in a home with a yard, as she is 100% potty-trained when she has access to an enclosed area for her business. She is an intermediate-level dog who will need significant structure, daily exercise (90 consecutive minutes of movement in the morning, plus potty breaks), and mental stimulation. An adopter with primary care experience with a similar breed, temperament, and/or energy level is required. While puppy experience is a plus, immense patience and time are a must. An active lifestyle and the ability to adapt to a pup's evolving needs are essential. Professional dog training with a rewards-based trainer is strongly urged. Homes with children aged 8 and up are ideal, as puppies can be mouthy and rambunctious. She is sensitive to sounds and new people at nighttime.
Ongoing Health
Baby is healthy, up to date on her DHPP and Bordetella vaccines, spayed, microchipped, and has been treated with dewormer.
Training & Support
Baby is working on leash manners and can be quite energetic like a young horse or kangaroo on walks, though this is improving with longer walks. She is also in her chewing phase and likes to chew on things she shouldn't, like shoes and furniture, but is easily redirected to her toys. She is generally good about not jumping to greet people, but this doesn't apply to greeting other dogs. She is crate-trained and does well being left alone in her crate, sometimes with calming music or a Kong, but is also fine without.
