Iris was pulled from a high-kill shelter in Texas with her siblings and is the last of her litter still waiting for her forever home. This 3-and-a-half-year-old Shepherd/Black Mouth Cur mix is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to find her family. At 47 pounds, Iris is compact and full of personality. She's goofy, playful, affectionate, and genuinely sweet, but she takes time to warm up to new people and dogs. Once she trusts you, she's all in! Iris would be a dream for someone working from home but truly thrives in a quieter environment, perhaps near trails or open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. She absolutely loves fetch and is trying her best to be the perfect companion.
Ideal Home
Iris would do best in a quieter environment, away from the chaos of city streets. An adult-only home is preferred, as she hasn't been around young children and may find their unpredictable energy overwhelming. She thrives with a slower pace and needs an environment where she can trust and decompress. An outdoorsy lifestyle with opportunities for trail walks and open space would be a huge bonus.
Ongoing Health
Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so if adopted into a home with other dogs, she should be fed separately.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She walks well on a leash for shorter distances, but can be reactive to dogs that get too close. Slow, intentional introductions are key for her to build trust and friendships with other dogs. With patience and consistency, her food and resource guarding behaviors are workable. She knows "sit," "down," and "wait," and is a belly rub enthusiast. She needs someone patient and understanding to help her continue building confidence.
