About Smokey

Meet Smokey! This handsome 2-year-old neutered Lab mix weighs in at 56 pounds of pure fun. He’s fully vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date on all preventatives ready to head home with his forever family. Smokey is playful, smart, and delightfully silly. He has a moderate energy level and loves to roughhouse with other dogs, but he’s great at picking up on cues and knows when it’s time to settle down. He’s friendly when meeting new dogs and would truly thrive with a confident, playful dog sibling to show him the ropes. He’s been around kids while crated and remained calm during their visits. Smokey can be okay with cats. He’s definitely curious and may try to initiate a playful chase at times, though other times he doesn’t bother with them at all. He’s a social, happy guy who does well meeting new people. If someone comes into the house, he’s friendly; if they’re outside, he’ll give a little bark to let you know. Smokey is still very much a puppy at heart and is learning the basics. He sleeps next to his fosters bed all night and doesn't stir until morning. Overall, Smokey is an amazing, funny boy who will flourish in a moderately active home with a patient family and a friendly dog companion. With love and structure, he’s going to make someone an incredible best friend.

Training & Support

Smokey is still learning the basics. On leash, he is a work in progress and does much better with a harness, but he will need patient training. He’s not a fan of the crate, though he settles once inside and should be crated when left alone (no longer than 9 hours) since he can be rambunctious and a bit of an escape artist. Smokey doesn’t resource guard but does think just about everything might be edible! He is a little nervous in the car.
