Emma is a 9-year-old, 9 lb. sweetheart looking for her forever home! She came to us from a situation where her previous owner could no longer care for her. Emma is a former mama who has retired from puppy-raising and is now ready to be pampered and loved. She is described as dainty, sweet, gentle, loyal, and incredibly loving. She absolutely melts for kind men and loves to give kisses to her humans. While she can be a bit shy with loud noises or chaotic movements, she forms strong bonds with her people and enjoys being close to them, whether it's curled up on the bed or by your side on the couch. She's also a good girl when it comes to potty training, using both pee pads and going outside. Emma can be a bit of a chow hound and eats quickly, but she's respectful of other dogs' food. She has a playful terrier spirit and will chase after critters like squirrels and birds, but she's very obedient and will come when called.
Ideal Home
Emma would do best in a calm, laid-back home without young children, as she can be startled by loud noises and sudden movements. She would also prefer a home without cats, as she has a strong prey drive and is very vocal when it comes to felines. A fenced backyard is a plus for her to safely explore. She enjoys the company of other calm, laid-back dogs and would likely thrive with at least one canine friend.
Ongoing Health
Emma recently had surgery to remove masses from her belly, which were found to be benign (a complex adenoma). She also had her teeth cleaned during this procedure. Previously, she had a low-grade mast cell tumor removed, and while it has not returned, she will need regular veterinary check-ups to monitor for any new lumps.
Training & Support
Emma is very eager to please and responds well to commands. She is already house-trained and uses pee pads and goes outside. While she doesn't have much experience with toys, her foster parents are working on introducing them. She can be a bit vocal when she can't see her people, so it's recommended to bring her along when you're working outside if possible.
