About Sargent Pepper
Sargent Pepper ACCT-A-252172 is currently considered urgent and at risk of euthanasia due to length of stay and lack of space for incoming dogs. Sargent Pepper must have confirmed placement with an ADOPTER or RESCUE PARTNER by SATURDAY, JULY 3rd by 10:00 am. Should Sargent Pepper's medical or behavioral status change, his urgency and timeline for placement may also change.
Due to being significantly overcapacity with animals and higher than usual intake, extensions are unlikely to be granted. If you are interested in an animal please contact ACCT Philly immediately. Due to limited space, timestamps may also be proceeded with early so it is imperative to let us know if you are considering adopting or tagging an animal.
Looking for a fun-loving sidekick who's always ready for the next adventure? Meet Sargent Pepper! This handsome young pup has all the enthusiasm, curiosity, and goofy charm you'd expect from a dog still growing into adulthood.
Sargent Pepper came to the shelter after being found as a stray, but he hasn't let his rough start dampen his spirits. He's affectionately earned the title of the shelter's "zoomie king" thanks to his love of sprinting around the yard, chasing toys, and making everyone laugh with his playful antics. Whether he's investigating birds, bouncing after a toy, or happily zooming around his people, Sergeant Pepper approaches life with contagious excitement.
Despite all that energy, he has a softer side too. Once he's had a chance to burn off some energy, Sergeant Pepper loves rolling over for belly rubs and soaking up affection. Volunteers say he already knows "sit" (even if he sometimes takes his time!) and that he was an absolute superstar during his photo shoot, happily posing before running in for his close-up.
Sergeant Pepper is still learning his manners and can get jumpy and mouthy when he's excited, so he'll thrive with an active adopter who is committed to continuing his training. He's a strong boy who enjoys staying busy, and regular exercise, enrichment, and positive reinforcement will help him become the wonderful companion everyone knows he can be. Sergeant Pepper is looking that is either adult only or with kids 10+ due to his high energy. This energetic boy would likely thrive in doggie daycare to burn some energy or with another active resident dog to play with!
He's also shown that he enjoys socializing with other dogs in playgroup, where he has been described as playful, rough-and-rowdy, and entering with a loose, happy body. A home that can match his energy and provide plenty of opportunities for play would be right up his alley.
If you're searching for a young, athletic dog with a huge personality, endless enthusiasm, and lots of love to give, Sargent Pepper is ready to march straight into your heart.

BEHAVIOR NOTES:
On 6/19 per staff: Amazing in playgroup today/ walked in with loose body and was playful, rough and rowdy
As new dogs would come into the catch pen he would do a high pitched bark at the gate
On 6/14 per volunteer: I took Sergeant Pepper out for the photo shoot on June 14. He does have high energy and he is strong, but he wasn't difficult to manage. Currently, he does have a cold, and it was a very hot day.
For me, he walks better on a harness, because he pulls and he's always very eager to get into the yard. He knows sit, but often does it slowly, and once he feels comfortable, he'll roll onto his back to get belly rubs.
When he gets excited, he can be jumpy and mouthy, so he'll need an adopter to help curb and train him. However, at just under a year and a half, he still has some young energy. He was a perfect model for his photo shoot...laying down almost immediately and then dashed right in for his close up.
This handsome boy can be a handful, but with some training and consistent exercise, he is gonna make somebody a really nice companion.
On 6/14 per Walksheet notes: Sargent Pepper was walked on 6/8, 6/10, 6/11, 6/12, and 6/14. On 6/8 Pepper had mild leash issues, very mild mouthiness and jumpiness, and was noted to have medium-high energy. On leash Sargent pepper was noted as "fast and strong" out of the kennel and had lulling on leash. Handler wrote "puppy energy, still mouthy and jumpy. Added to surgery board (fixed today)." On 6/10 Sargent Pepper had mild leash issues, moderate mouthiness, and moderate jumpiness and was observed to have medium-high energy. Handler wrote "mouthy, jumpy, very strong." On 6/11 Sargent Pepper had moderate mouthiness and jumpiness and was noted to have high energy. Handler wrote "lots of zoomies, jumps with open mouth, will chase any toy, have lots on hand. Use treat scatter." On 6/12 Sargent Pepper had no major issues noted other than mild jumpiness and was observed to have medium energy. On 6/14 Sargent Pepper had very mild leash issues and was observed to have medium energy with a good dog meet. Handler wrote "very energetic, just wants to play."
On 6/11 per volunteer Kennel Presentation: At front of kennel, nudging head towards door and pushing to come out.
Leash Skills: Walks ahead of you and pulls on leash but is manageable. Some zig zagging.
Sociability: In dog run, Pepper was a zoomie king. He ran around at full speed and would loop around you ( have to watch your knees!). He would also occasionally run over and then jump up. He gets very excited over any toys being thrown, birds in the yard, or anything that moves quick. He is playful and puppy-like but also has not learned manners. At times, he would take the leash into his mouth and play with it however once we were walking and out of yard- he made no attempts at all to go for the leash. I brought a rope toy back to kennels for precaution but did not need it.
Play: See above- very playful, very exciteable. High Prey drive.
Dog Interaction:
Return to Kennel: Jumped in and then pull backwards against leash, making it hard to get off. I was able to lure him closer with dropping cheese so I could undo the loop.
Color Level: Blue
Recommendations and considerations: Needs lots of exercise and enrichment.
On 6/10 per volunteer: Rowdy & jumpy, but still easy Jumping on the door- excited, Trying to push past you Pulled moderately Yes, I handled the dog. He's very strong. Jumped at my side in a playful way. Walked right into kennel and unleashed without issue Recommend a strong adopter.
MEDICAL NOTES:
Sergeant Pepper is currently being treated for an upper respiratory infection (URI) or "doggy cold." URIs are contagious to other dogs, but not to people or other types of animals.
