Meet Squirrel! This sweet boy, weighing in at a petite 26 pounds, is about 5 years young. Squirrel came to us as part of a group of five rescued littermates from a difficult hoarding, abuse, and neglect situation. He was initially the most fearful and skittish of the bunch, but he has truly blossomed and overcome so much! Squirrel is a gentle soul who is confident and happy once he feels comfortable and safe within his circle. He thrives on routine and finds joy in the simple things, especially nurturing affection and tasty food. While he prefers to stick to what he knows, Squirrel is always successful and happy when encouraged to explore new things at his own pace. He is a true homebody who loves lounging in his fenced yard, sunbathing, and playing with other dogs. He's very respectful of cats and other critters. Though he enjoys the occasional car ride and a drive-thru treat, his heart belongs to his comfortable home. Squirrel can be socially awkward and reserved, preferring to observe from a distance and mind his own business. He thrives in a calm environment with minimal changes and excitement.
Ideal Home
Squirrel needs to be in a home with other friendly, positive, and balanced dogs. He looks to them for companionship, comfort, and guidance. A home that values routine, simplicity, and offers plenty of nurturing affection will help Squirrel thrive.
Ongoing Health
Squirrel is house and crate-trained. His leash manners continue to improve, and his recall is reliable within a fenced area. All adoptions include spaying/neutering, age-appropriate vaccinations, heartworm testing (negative), monthly heartworm, flea, and tick prevention, Lyme disease testing (negative), deworming, fecal testing (negative), age-appropriate medical needs, and a lifetime microchip.
Training & Support
Squirrel is house and crate-trained, and his recall and basic obedience are great. However, training is an ongoing process, and he is motivated to continue learning at his own pace. Consistency and positive reinforcement will set him up for continued success.
