This beautiful, loving girl is Ella, a 3-year-old, 98lb female Great Pyrenees mix. She is sweet and loving with people, good with dogs and cats. While we haven't seen her with children, her nice temperament suggests she would be good with respectful kids 5 years and up. Ella's foster mom works from home, and Ella typically goes outside every 4-6 hours, not asking to go out for potty breaks. She is not a chewer and doesn't initiate barking, though she might join in if other dogs bark. Ella sleeps on the floor in her foster's room and does not jump on furniture. She loves car rides and is content to lay down until reaching her destination, which she hopes is the dog park for some playtime with other dogs. Ella knows commands like "sit" and "come," and she walks nicely on a leash without pulling. She tolerates being brushed and is not shedding much. Ella shows no interest in playing with toys. She is calm, easy-going, and eager to please, often resting her head in your lap or offering a paw for attention. Ella quickly forms a strong bond with her person, but she also experiences separation anxiety.
Ideal Home
Ella would thrive in a home where someone is home much of the time, such as a retiree or someone who works from home. Her adoptive home must include another friendly dog to help her manage her separation anxiety. We recommend Ella bond with this dog before she forms her tight bond with you.
Ongoing Health
Ella has been spayed and is current on her distemper, rabies, leptospirosis, and Bordetella vaccinations. She tested positive for heartworm and was treated in May. A recheck heartworm test is recommended in 6-9 months (October of this year to January of next year), and Second Chance will cover this cost at your clinic.
Training & Support
Ella is a calm, easy-going, and eager-to-please dog. She knows basic commands like "sit" and "come," and walks well on a leash. While she doesn't initiate barking, she may join in if other dogs bark. We can provide tips on helping Ella bond with a resident dog to help manage her separation anxiety.
