Cooper is a highly intelligent and perceptive dog who is incredibly attuned to human emotions and energy, making him a fascinating companion for those seeking an honest connection. He's well-behaved at the vet and during grooming, and he absolutely adores other dogs, playing with them with great enthusiasm. Cooper is a natural athlete and would make a fantastic hiking or fitness buddy. He also has an amazing nose and would likely excel as a hunting dog.

Ideal Home

Cooper would thrive in a home with an experienced owner who understands and can manage dogs with reactivity and resource-guarding issues. He needs a confident, calm, and strong leader who can provide clear structure and establish firm boundaries. This is not a home for novice owners, as Cooper requires an adopter with prior experience working with reactive dogs.

Ongoing Health

Cooper shows reactivity around his crate and has resource-guarding issues with food and high-value treats, which are believed to stem from past abuse. He has made significant progress with a professional trainer over the past seven months, and his crate and food reactivity have improved. While his reactivity may not completely disappear, it has dulled significantly as he's built trust.

Training & Support

Cooper is highly food-motivated and learns quickly, so positive reinforcement training will be very effective. He needs an owner dedicated to maintaining the structure and training he has received to help him continue to succeed. He has learned to go into his crate calmly and leave his food when instructed, but this requires consistent reinforcement from his owner.
