Meet Toby, a 6-month-old, 26-pound Carolina-Corgi mix with a heart as big as his adorable ears. Toby's journey began with heartbreak; abandoned at a high-kill shelter at just 4 months old, he was left scared and alone after his mom was adopted. Thankfully, a loving foster stepped in. Initially terrified of the outside world, Toby found comfort in his foster sisters, slowly learning to explore and play by their example. Now, he happily goes on leash, loves playing with his foster sisters, and enjoys sunbathing.
Toby is shy when meeting new people and needs time to adjust to new environments. Once he feels safe, he becomes a loyal companion, calmly following you everywhere. He is gentle, sweet, and non-confrontational, with excellent manners around other animals. Toby enjoys lounging on bookshelves, under desks, or close to his foster sisters. He currently lives harmoniously with six dogs and one cat, thriving in the company of other pets who provide him with reassurance and confidence.
Ideal Home
Toby thrives in the company of other pets and requires a home with a happy, confident, playful dog to serve as a role model. He is smart and a quick learner, but we feel he would do best in a quieter home without young children, as he expends a lot of energy observing his surroundings. A calm environment will help him relax and continue gaining confidence. A fully fenced yard is a requirement for adoption; electric or underground fences are not accepted.
Ongoing Health
Toby is fully vaccinated with 3 rounds of shots, neutered, and heartworm negative. He is kept on heartworm and flea preventatives.
Training & Support
Toby is currently puppy pad trained and has done an excellent job learning to potty indoors. While he is still working through his fear of loud noises and the outside world, we are focusing on building his confidence at his own pace. He is a quick learner and eagerly follows the other dogs when they go outside. We believe that with a patient family and a confident dog companion, transitioning to outdoor potty training will be easy for him.
