About Gio

Gio is a 4-year-old, 78-pound black lab mix who has truly mastered the art of the bear hug! He loves to wrap his front paws around you for a big hug, and once he knows you, he's happy to snuggle in your lap. Gio soaks up all the affection you can give and is eager to be your new best friend. He's playful, too, enjoying walks and getting more comfortable splashing in the water. Gio is great in the car, ready for adventures, but also happy to relax with his favorite people. He's excelling in obedience classes and is a champ at leash walking. While he's enthusiastic about meeting new friends, he's learning to manage his excitement. He is working on his food guarding and making progress.

Ideal Home

Gio currently lives with older female dogs and respects their space. He doesn't get along with the male foster dog, so a home with female dogs or as the only dog would be ideal. He has not been cat-tested but may be good with feline friends with proper introductions. Homes with children 10 years and older are recommended.

Ongoing Health

No specific health conditions are mentioned.

Training & Support

Gio is crate-trained and enjoys having plenty of toys to prevent boredom-related chewing. He is learning to manage his excitement around new friends and is working on food guarding. His adopters will receive training sessions to help ensure his continued success.
