Meet Alex, a 10-month-old Dachshund mix who may be small in size at 19 lbs, but he has a big heart and a journey to building confidence. Alex is not aggressive; he is simply scared of new situations, people, and environments, so he needs a patient and understanding home to help him feel safe and secure. He is still learning to trust men, but with consistency and time, he can comfortably coexist and build a strong bond. Once he forms a connection, he is incredibly loyal and affectionate, as he has with his foster mom.
Alex is already crate-trained, potty-trained, and adept at using a dog door. His crate is his safe haven, and he cherishes it. While he may have occasional accidents when feeling overwhelmed, this is improving as his confidence grows. Leash walking is currently a source of fear for Alex, and because of this, and his tendency to look for escape routes, a securely fenced yard is a must.
He absolutely needs to have another dog in the home to thrive. Alex learns and gains confidence by following the lead of other dogs. He has shown to be wonderful with his foster siblings, understanding their cues and enjoying playtime. A confident, playful, and well-balanced canine companion will be instrumental in his happiness. Alex's favorite place to be is outside, where he loves to run, explore, and simply enjoy the fresh air.

Ongoing Health
All animals are fully vetted, including spay/neuter, vaccinations, deworming, heartworm testing and treatment if necessary, and are up-to-date on flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and microchipped.
Training & Support
Alex is crate-trained, potty-trained, and uses a dog door. He is still working on leash skills and can have occasional nervous accidents when overwhelmed. He needs continued work on building confidence, especially around men.

- All current dogs must be up to date on Rabies and Distemper/Parvo (DHPP) vaccinations.
- All current dogs must be on consistent, consecutive heartworm prevention.
- Past dogs listed on the application must also show a consecutive history of heartworm prevention.
