Gunner is a 3-year-old, 50-pound black and tan hound mix with a heart as big as Texas! He was rescued from a local animal shelter and is ready for a home where he can relax and enjoy the good life. Gunner is a sweet and affectionate boy who loves nothing more than to be showered with attention and pets. He's also a playful pup who enjoys toys and wrestling with his canine friends. Being a hound, Gunner has a lot of personality! He's a big fan of squirrels and will let you know if he sees one. He also enjoys chatting with passersby, both human and canine, and is known to "counter-surf" with his buddies if the opportunity arises. He's also an expert at "helping" with the garbage if cabinets aren't secured. Despite his playful antics, Gunner is a crate-trained good boy who comes when called, rides well in a car, and is a champ during bath time. Because of the Texas heat, Gunner prefers to spend his days indoors, snoozing on the couch in the air conditioning, but he's happy to pop outside for potty breaks and playtime.
Ideal Home
A home that understands hound behavior and can provide plenty of indoor comfort and air conditioning would be ideal for Gunner. He enjoys the company of other dogs and is a social butterfly.
Ongoing Health
Gunner is neutered, tattooed, microchipped, and up-to-date on all vaccinations (DAPPvL2, Bordatella, rabies). He has been treated for heartworms and is now heartworm-negative. He receives monthly heartworm and flea prevention.
Training & Support
Gunner is crate-trained and responsive to commands like "come." He walks well on a leash and is good with baths. While he enjoys interacting with neighbors, some training may be needed to manage his vocalizations at passing people and animals. He may also benefit from continued supervision and secure cabinets to prevent him from "counter-surfing" or raiding the garbage.
