Julio is an approximately 4-year-old, 22-pound French Poodle mix with a heart full of love and a remarkable story of resilience. He was found wandering the streets of Saltillo, Mexico, in heartbreaking physical and emotional condition, suffering from severe malnutrition and wounds. Despite a past where he spent much of his life chained up, Julio has remained one of the sweetest dogs imaginable. He responded with pure joy to kind words and gentle affection from the moment he arrived in foster care. Julio is highly social and gets along wonderfully with dogs, cats, children, men, and women. He is leash trained and crate trained, able to stay in his crate for 8-10 hours without accidents, and will bark to let you know when he needs to go outside. He is affectionate, playful, patient, and incredibly loving, wanting nothing more than to be close to his people. Because of his past, he can be a little anxious when separated from the family, but his greatest desire is simply to belong. One of Julio's unique quirks is that he often carries around leashes, as if still learning that he no longer has to live tied up. He has endured neglect but has never lost his gentle spirit.
Ideal Home
Julio needs a fenced backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. He would do best in a home with experience in dog behavior and training, or a family willing to hire a trainer. Patience and high tolerance are crucial for this rescued puppy.
Ongoing Health
Julio is still underweight and should ideally reach around 33 pounds. He has received wound care, good nutrition, and lots of love to begin his healing. His health protocol includes Spay/Neuter Certificate, 2 shots of DHPPI Vaccine, Rabies Vaccine, Bordetella Vaccine, Deworming, Microchip, 4DX Test and Certificate, Heartworm test Negative Certificate, Monthly Preventive Protection Nexgard Spectra (fleas, ticks, and heartworm), Health Certificate, and a Vaccines booklet.
Training & Support
Julio is leash trained and crate trained. However, he is not house-trained. He can be a little anxious when separated from his family. A home with a strong understanding of the behaviors and needs for protection and education of street animals is ideal.
