Hazel

Hazel is a delightful 2-year-old female Shar-Pei who had a rough start, found abandoned with double cherry eyes. Thanks to our amazing veterinary team, her cherry eyes have been successfully repaired and look wonderful! Shar-Peis have unique needs and are best suited for experienced owners, not first-time dog parents or homes with very young children. Hazel prefers a calm environment and doesn't do well with rough play. Older children who understand and respect a dog's boundaries would be a great fit. Originally bred as guardian dogs, Shar-Peis can be reserved with strangers. She typically prefers to be the only canine companion, so a single-pet household is likely best for her. We are specifically looking for adopters with prior Shar-Pei experience.

Ideal Home

Hazel thrives in a home with experienced owners who understand the Shar-Pei breed. She would do best in an adult-only home or one with older children who are gentle and respectful of her space. A single-pet household is preferred.

Ongoing Health

Hazel's cherry eyes have been surgically repaired and are healing well.

Training & Support

As a Shar-Pei, Hazel can be naturally aloof and suspicious of strangers. She may also not be fond of other dogs. Consistent, patient guidance and socialization will help her feel more comfortable and confident.

Hazel is located at the Humane Society of Preble County in Eaton, OH. Transportation may be available to approved adopters.
