Meet OAKLEY! He's a sunshine seeker with a brave heart and a gentle way of loving. OAKLEY was found as a stray dragging himself along after being shot. He now has limited use of his back legs, but he still loves moving around and exploring. One of his favorite things is his daily walk with his best friend, GRACIE. Because of the trauma he has endured, OAKLEY can be shy and timid at first. Like GRACIE, he has a hard time asking for love, but that does not mean he does not want it. He may keep a little distance at first, then quietly settle nearby. Once he feels safe, his sweet and goofy side starts to show. Most of the time, OAKLEY is laid-back and cautious. But when it is time for his walk with GRACIE, he bolts out and briefly turns into an out-of-character zoomie machine. It is completely adorable and always makes us laugh. OAKLEY spends time in our Littles playgroup, where he mostly coexists and watches the action up close rather than jumping into the middle of it. He prefers calmer, less intimidating dogs over rough-housers.
Ideal Home
OAKLEY would love a calm home with a steady routine, gentle people, a peaceful yard, and someone who understands that trust takes time. He prefers calmer, less intimidating dogs over rough-housers.
Ongoing Health
Because of his injury, OAKLEY is incontinent and needs manual expression a few times a day to stay clean and comfortable. In our facility, where dogs are asked to stay clean for a very long stretch overnight, he can have some messes by morning. In a home routine, with proper expression and a more normal schedule, his care should be very manageable.
