Meet Aspen, a sweet and shy girl who is learning the world can be a safe and loving place. Aspen came to us at 9 months old, having spent her entire young life in a backyard with minimal human interaction. Because of this, she is still working on building trust with people and can be fearful of new individuals, noises, and busy environments.
Over the past three months in foster care, Aspen has made wonderful progress. She is crate trained, house trained, and is starting to feel more comfortable in her surroundings. While she may never be a dog who greets strangers with enthusiastic tail wags, she is a loving companion for those who earn her trust. She thrives with the guidance of other dogs and would do best in a home with one or more confident, playful medium-to-large dogs who can help her continue to build her confidence. She is also good with small dogs, especially if there's a buddy to chase in the yard!
Ideal Home
Aspen would thrive in a calm, low-traffic home with a secure yard. She needs a patient and rescue-experienced adopter who understands that building trust with her will take time and consistency. She is not a dog who will jump into a new situation with immediate affection, but for the right person, witnessing her journey to feeling safe and loved will be incredibly rewarding.
Ongoing Health
Aspen is approximately 1 year old and weighs around 40 lbs, though she is still a bit thin. She has been spayed, is up to date on all vaccines, microchipped, and is heartworm negative.
Training & Support
Aspen is crate trained and house trained. She is still learning to trust new people and can be fearful of new noises and busy activity. She needs an adopter who will let her move at her own pace and help her feel safe. Her foster mom, who is an Adore trainer, has a wealth of information and support to share to help Aspen continue to succeed.
