About Achilles

Achilles is an eager, loving, and loyal boy who absolutely adores hoses and chasing lizards! He would be content with a quiet home and minimal exercise, though he's a Shepherd mix who would love to be around water or have access to swimming. Achilles came to us through our foster program with Pinal County. He was on the priority foster list due to a bite record from his previous surrender. The circumstances of the bite were unknown, but it was assumed he was scared by a loud noise or aggressed by the previous owner. Due to changes in Pinal County's insurance policy, we were able to adopt Achilles and prevent euthanasia. Achilles initially had stranger danger, likely from shelter stress, but has made great progress interacting with new people and dogs. He remains hyper-sensitive to noises and movements, but has learned to interact with that stress appropriately. Achilles has also completed basic obedience classes and is crate trained.

Ideal Home

A quiet home with minimal exercise would be ideal, though he'd also love access to water or swimming. Achilles is not recommended for homes with cats due to prey drive. Older children are welcome, but only after a meet and greet.

Ongoing Health

No specific health conditions are noted in his description.

Training & Support

Achilles is hyper-sensitive to noises and fast movements, so these should be limited in the home during his transition. A structured process for introducing strangers will likely be needed to help him feel more comfortable. He has a high food drive and is eager to please, making him very receptive to training. He's been easy to work with and can be redirected from barking, even when his beloved hose is present.
