About RITCHEY ROO (aka Richard)
Ritchey Roo, affectionately known as Richard, is an exuberant, jubilant, and yet laid-back fellow who was made to be man's best friend. He is all about humans and not so much into other dogs. Richard is a happy boy who loves people and enjoys lounging around inside and out. He thrives on affection and simply wants to be near you. Ritchey is house-trained and comfortable being left alone when you're away.
While he can be a quiet couch potato, Richard also has bursts of energy. He can go from zero to ten almost instantly when a leash appears or you walk through the door. He can be the gentlest of souls, but also has a playful boisterous side, especially when food or a leash is involved, where he might jump and get a little too excited. Ritchey can also be vocal, but he only speaks when he has something to say, and it's usually quite humorous.
Estimated to be about 5-6 years old and currently weighing in at 90 lbs, Ritchey could benefit from a diet and increased physical activity. He loves sleeping in bed with his human and has learned the command "OVER" to ensure everyone gets their space. Richard doesn't seem particularly interested in toys or fetch, but he thoroughly enjoys car rides and walks, though he does require some serious leash training as he is a strong puller. Ultimately, Ritchey would be content lounging at home and running in a yard. He enjoys your company but is also independent enough not to be a constant shadow. Ritchey has adapted well in foster and boarding environments, making him an easy companion.
We are not 100% sure how he is with other dogs, but he has disregarded a senior dog that fussed at him and has been non-reactive to other dogs at boarding facilities. However, he has been declined from daycare due to his overwhelming excitement. Given his history as a stray and his previous family's financial struggles, we believe Ritchey would be happiest as the only spoiled pup in the home. He is a very lovable boy who is sure to be a wonderful companion for the right person or people.
Ideal Home
An ideal home for Ritchey would ideally have a fenced yard. He is looking for a home where he can be the cherished and only pet.
Ongoing Health
Ritchey arrived underweight and has since gained to 90 lbs. He could benefit from a diet and/or increased physical activity.
Training & Support
Ritchey requires leash training as he is a strong puller. He can be overly excited and jumpy, especially when food or a leash is involved. He has learned the "OVER" command for bed-sharing.
