Canela

Canela is a 5-year-old, 53 lb bundle of love and resilience! She's a true survivor who's blossomed into a calm, social, and incredibly affectionate companion after a tough start. Canela was once used as a guard dog and kept on a short chain, but she's now a proud graduate of dog school and ready for her forever home. Her trainers rave about her intelligence and sweet nature.

Ideal Home

Canela would thrive in a home where she can continue to receive love and attention. She's great with male dogs but prefers to be the only female dog in the household. She is not a fan of cats.

Ongoing Health

Canela had surgery to remove a plate from her leg, which was from an old fracture. While she has a slight limp, it doesn't slow her down. Before leaving Cortez Rescue, all dogs receive a full medical assessment, are up-to-date on vaccinations, and are spayed/neutered. All dogs are micro-chipped before leaving Mexico.

Training & Support

Canela is kennel trained, potty trained, and off-leash trained. She knows all her basic commands: sit, stay, down, and come. Her trainers describe her as perfectly behaved, but she will benefit from continued positive reinforcement to maintain her excellent manners.
