Meet Willow! She's a 65-pound Catahoula Cur who will be two years old in December. Willow is a special girl with unique needs, and we're on the hunt for the perfect home where she can truly shine!
Willow is completely deaf, and her current trainers suspect she may also have some challenges with her peripheral vision. While her vet confirms her eyes are healthy and her pupils respond to light, her vision capabilities are still being assessed. She's currently being fostered by a loving family who are willing to care for her until her forever home is found, but they feel they aren't the best fit for her long-term needs.
Willow can be a bit of a resource guarder when it comes to her food and toys, which has caused some friction with the other dog in her foster home. Her foster family believes Willow would be happier and less stressed in a home where she doesn't feel the need to guard her prized possessions.
Despite her challenges, Willow is a joy to be around! She adores the outdoors and loves to explore by your side. Being deaf, some things can startle her, which is completely understandable. She enjoys playtime but also loves to lounge and relax. Her foster family describes her as having medium energy levels and notes that she’s a big fan of flirt poles and fetch, especially with a ball large enough for her to easily track. They've also taught her some basic sign language!
Ideal Home
Willow would thrive in a home without children. A quiet environment with not a lot of comings and goings would be ideal, as new situations can easily overwhelm her, making it difficult for her to settle down. Her foster family has noticed that their other dog seems to be a trigger for Willow. She has shown very little interest in cats.
Ongoing Health
Willow is deaf and may have some issues with her peripheral vision. She has recently started anxiety medication as part of her ongoing care. Her foster family will provide all medical records and her current training plan from their behaviorist.
Training & Support
Willow has been working with a behaviorist and has learned some sign language. While she's amazing one-on-one, her foster home's other dog is a trigger for her resource guarding behaviors. Consistent training and a calm environment will be key to her success.
