About Marge

Meet Marge (ACCT-A-251865)! This shy girl was found with another dog, Homer, wandering on the street.

Since coming to ACCT, she's been trying her best to be brave. She looks to Homer for guidance and comfort, and she's also been neutral and calm around other dogs. She has been described aloof at time with new people but pepperoni is a way to her heart!

She'll do best in a calm, patient home who's ready to help her bloom into her best self - ideally with lots of cheese on hand!

BEHAVIOR Per day trip report card 6/25 : Activities on the Day Trip: Walk and swim at the Wiss, a stop by Wissahickon Brewing for a lemonade, McDonald's for some chicken nuggets and a final cemetery walk for the last pees Where did you go, and would you recommend it to others? Why or why not? They were all great! How was the dog's energy level throughout the trip? 4 / 5 How was the dog in the car? (N/a if no car ride) She was perfect! No issues. No barking, no coming to frontseat If indoors, did the dog seem house trained? N/A How comfortable was the dog in new surroundings? Somewhat comfortable How did the dog react seeing other animals in passing (cats, dogs, squirrels, birds, etc.)? Was excited but did not react How did the dog react seeing people, such as runners, bikers, or children? Sometimes would get startled, but mostly just excited and then after a few times wasn't even phased by them Describe the dog's leash manners (e.g., pulls on leash, walks nicely, jumpy, leash biting). She walks so nicely on leash! How did the dog take treats? (e.g., Snatchy, took gently, or was not interested in treats, etc.) Not interested in treats, was gentle with chicken nuggets Which commands did the dog respond to? I didn't try any! Favorite moment from day trip? When she went all the way to her belly in the water and was looking at the ducks. She wouldn't go deeper at first but I took off my shoes and went with her. Please share any information about the dog that would be helpful to know Marge is such a perfect dog and I can't wait for her to find her forever people! I'll be routing for her

Walksheet notes: Marge was walked on 6/11, 6/12, 6 13 with no general issues. On 5/13 handler wrote "loves fetch, playful at fence with Queen. No longer shy."

Marge was walked on 6/14 with no general issues, medium energy, a good dog meet and handler wrote "very energetic, very nice and sweet."

Playgroup 6/22: Came to the gate seemingly nervous, got stiff and side eye while other dogs approached her. Very unsure of the dogs in the yard. I believe after her steer test, she became very scared of the shake can when Tim tested her at gate and did not loosen up in yard. Cautiously looking with tense body at Oz and Kingdom while they were sniffing her. If in yard again I recommend skipping shake can.

per day trip 6/19: Loves butt scratches Calm when getting attention Curious about dogs but moves on, doesn't pull or make sounds Like treats when more relaxed Does butt leans No issue with toddler Doesn't want to be a lapdog but tolerates being picked up Accepts/likes face smushes and kisses Good on leash

Marge was a delight, so so sweet.

6/19 playgroup : came into the yard, stiff with high tail and mouth closed when dogs interacted directly with her. Otherwise sat a lot and watched everything going on around her with soft eyes and gentle pant. Mingled and was tolerant

Playgroup 6/16: Steerable 2/5 with water and 4/5 with can. High tail, ears back then play bow when greeting Prince. With Moya, high tail, ears back, slightly tense body.

Per volunteer 6/14: "Marge appears to have gotten over her fearfulness. Today she exited kennel easily and greeted me with loose body. She had neutral body walking through kennels. She wanted to pee on the grass so pulled strongly toward the runs. Once we were in the run, Marge was all about play! She loves fetch and will even drop the toy. She was also very interested in other dogs. Marge met Queen through the fence and was super playful! She wiggled her whole body, barked and playbowed to entice Queen to play with her. Queen was a bit unsure at first but loosened up when she saw Marge running about with a toy. They played parallel games of fetch and kept trying to show each other their toys, lol. A staff member told me that the dog Marge came in with has gone to ISO but she doesn't seem to be missing him much, she was in high spirits today."

Walksheet notes: Marge was walked on 6/5, 6/6, 6/7, 6/8, 6/10, 6/11, and 6/12. On 6/5 Marge had no general issues noted and was observed to have low energy. Handler wrote "No issues! Very bonded to Homer! Gentle and sweet." On 6/6 Marge had no general issues noted and was observed to have low energy. Handler wrote "Very easy walk, walked with Homer + had to separate because Homer kept whining for her." On 6/7 Marge had mild issues entering the kennel and with shyness. She was noted to have low energy and had a neutral dog meet with Paxton. Handler wrote "sweet, shy girl. Loves cheese! Go slow & follow her lead." On 6/8 Marge had no general issues noted. On 6/10 Marge had mild issues entering the kennel and with shyness and was observed to have low energy. Handler wrote "kind of aloof, loves pepperoni." On 6/11 and 6/12 Marge had no general issues noted. On 6/12 the handler wrote "good girl."

Per volunteer 6/11/26: Marge is a sweetie pie! She was a little aloof at times but opened up over time, following me around the yard and wagging her tail. She loves pepperoni!

Playgroup 6/10: Steerable 3/5 with water. Ears back, high tail, slow entry to the yard. Stiff greetings, playbowed to Zillo.

Volunteer 6/10/26: Marge is a sweetie pie! She was a little aloof at times but opened up over time, following me around the yard and wagging her tail. She loves pepperoni!

Behavior eval 6/7/2026: Kennel Presentation: Sitting on her cot with wide eyes when I approached. When I baby talked through the door, she stood up and slowly walked to the front of the kennel. No interest in a high value treat through the door

Leash Skills: Stood still and allowed me to leash her easily. Minimal pulling through the kennels

Sociability: Aloof in the yard. Lots of sniffing around with no interest in treats. She allowed petting without soliciting it, standing still for a few moments then moving away when I stopped petting. She sat down in front of me in the shade and, when I moved very slowly and stayed low, allowed me to come in front of her to take pictures without moving away. Seemed nervous of excessive handling. Inside the volunteer office, she opened up a lot with cheese (didn't like other high value treats) and took it very nicely! Cheese seems to be the key to helping her relax a bit. Remained aloof but was more willing to interact with me with cheese.

Play: No interest

Dog Interaction: Neutral leashed meet with Paxton. Still body, polite sniffs and tolerant of him, then they both largely ignored each other.

Return to Kennel: Pulled moderately back inside toward her kennel. Returned with a half step or cheese toss.

Color Level: Exp gold

Recommendations and considerations: Go slow and follow her lead. Use cheese!

Per staff 6/2/2026: Bonded with Homer(A261864). She was very nervous and avoidant of me at first. After I was able to leash Homer, she followed us and then jumped into the compartment on van next to him. She allowed me to leash her when we got back to shelter and pet her gently. Her tail remained tucked but she allowed all handling. Needs a slow approach. Getting her out with Homer for walks or playgroup could help her come out of her shell.
