About Mischeif

Meet Mischief! This stunning 7-month-old German Shepherd is a bundle of love and potential. Weighing in at 56 pounds, he's already a substantial pup and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. Mischief came to us with his brother, Bedlam, after their owner had an accidental litter. While Bedlam found his forever home with his foster, Mischief is now ready to charm his own family! He's incredibly sweet, loves to cuddle, and melts into you for hugs. He's particularly fond of men. Although he was initially a bit shy due to lack of socialization, Mischief is eager to learn and has shown great progress in overcoming his hesitations. He's a gem of a puppy with a bright future.

Ideal Home

Mischief would thrive in a home where he can continue his training and socialization. Due to his tendency to chase smaller, fearful dogs, a home without very small or easily frightened dogs would be best. We don't believe he would do well with cats. While he hasn't been fostered with children, his sweet and non-aggressive nature suggests he'd do fine with kids.

Ongoing Health

Mischief will be neutered, up-to-date on vaccines, and microchipped as part of his adoption. He is heartworm negative and on monthly preventatives. He was scared during his bath but tolerated it well.

Training & Support

Mischief is doing wonderfully with potty training and hasn't had any accidents. He is also not a leg-lifter. His biggest training hurdle has been the leash. While he was initially terrified, he's made huge improvements with patience and practice. He still gets a bit nervous with leash tension but can now go for walks with verbal corrections. He does best with an escape-proof slip lead style harness. He occasionally growls at new people but quickly warms up once they crouch down. He is treat and praise motivated and learns quickly. As a puppy, he still chews on inappropriate items occasionally but is easily redirected and enjoys chew toys and bones. Puppy-proofing his environment and providing him with engaging toys will be key. He has a medium energy level currently, but his future family should be prepared for potentially higher energy needs as he matures. Both mental and physical exercise daily will help him be his best self.
