About Akamaru

Meet Akamaru (ACCT-A-253736)! This wiggly guy is ready to find his forever home and start his next big adventure. Akamaru was found as a stray with a friend, and while he was a little shy and very hungry when he first arrived, he has since blossomed into a friendly, happy pup who loves to show off his personality.

Whether he's greeting you at his kennel door or being carried outside, his whole body seems to move with excitement. He is a high-energy companion who loves to jump up to say hello, though he is learning to keep his paws on the ground with a little bit of patience and some tasty treats. Speaking of treats, Akamaru is a big fan! He can be a little "snatchy" when he's excited, so he prefers to take his snacks from an open palm.

When it comes to other dogs, Akamaru is quite the socialite. He has shown appropriate, loose-bodied greetings and is very interested in making new friends. He's easy to redirect and is always looking for the next fun thing to do. Because he is still young and learning the ropes, he'll need a family ready to continue his training and give him all the love he deserves. If you're looking for a fun-loving, wiggly friend to brighten your days, Akamaru is waiting for you!

Behavioral Notes

06/29/2026 per staff behavioral eval: Kennel Presentation: At the front of the kennel, jumping up on the door, ears back, loose wiggly body. Took treats a little snatchy.

Leash Skills: Tossed treats to the back to get him to jump down. Ran right back to the front, mid tail wags, ears back loose body and was jumping up on the door, barking. Tried treat scatter on the floor to leash, he ate a treat then continued jumping up at the door. Was able to leash with a loop from above. Had to carry outside due to age. Allowed being picked up, when carrying was very wiggly.

Sociability: Was very jumpy, kept jumping up on me with the same body language. Stopped when tossing treats then returned after a few seconds. With ignoring him, he stopped jumping after about a minuet. Allowed all handling with loose body, ears to the side, mid tail wags. Took treats a little snatchy so open palm is best.

Play: n/a

Dog Interaction: Met Olivia, at the fence mid tail wags, barking, ears forward. Face to face, mid tail wags, interested in sniffing, easy to redirect by calling to him.

Return to Kennel: Carried back, easy to pick up, lose body, ears back. When walking through the kennels, dogs started barking and Akamaru started barking, tenser body, fast tail wags and turning his head towards the dogs, squirming. Adjusted my hand to have it closer to his neck so his head did not turn towards me.

Color Level: Exp Gold

06/29/2026 per staff: Barking at the fence greeting with mid tail and ears to the side. Appropriate greetings with loose body, soft eyes, mid tail loosely wagging. Able to be moved away.

06/25/2026 per staff: A volunteer let me know that Akamaru and Asuna were fighting in there kennel and asked if they could be in separate kennels. I asked for more details and they said that when they and another volunteer went to call them to separate sides to leash up they jumped over each other and the larger of the two puppies seemed to instigate it. There were no resources in the kennel other than water. They had to hit on the door to get them to stop. There was another time they heard the puppies fighting but did not see what happened and was able to break it up with noise again.
