This sweet girl is Iris! She's a 3.5-year-old Shepherd and Black Mouth Cur mix, weighing in at a compact 47 pounds. Iris was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas with her siblings and has blossomed in her foster home, but she's the last one still waiting for her forever family. She's fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed, all ready for her next adventure!
Ideal Home
Iris would be a dream for someone working from home, but she truly thrives in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open spaces, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An adult-only home is a must, as she hasn't been around children and her fear reactivity requires an environment where her need for space and boundaries can be respected. She does best with slow, intentional introductions to new dogs and can build genuine friendships when given patience.
Ongoing Health
Iris is healthy and up-to-date on all vaccinations and has been spayed and microchipped. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so separate feeding is recommended if there are other dogs in the home.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She walks well on leash and enjoys shorter walks, though she can be reactive to dogs that get too close. Her foster has managed this by creating distance and setting her up for success. Iris is a dog who benefits greatly from consistency and training, and her adopter should be prepared to continue building her confidence and understanding her cues.
