Iris is a 3.5-year-old Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur mix who is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She's a compact 47 pounds and was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings. Iris is goofy, playful, affectionate, and genuinely sweet, but she is selective with new people and dogs, preferring slow, intentional introductions. Once she trusts you, she is incredibly loyal and loving. She enjoys fetch, belly rubs, and curling up with her favorite people. Iris is a dream for someone working from home and would thrive in a quieter environment, ideally with access to open spaces or trails, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets.
Ideal Home
Iris would be a wonderful companion for someone working from home. She is best suited for an adult-only home, as she has not been around young children and her fear reactivity means she needs an environment where her boundaries can be respected. A quieter lifestyle with access to trails or open spaces would be ideal. She is dog-selective and does best with slow, careful introductions; once she builds trust, she can be a great playmate.
Ongoing Health
Iris is up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so she should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She walks well on a leash but can be reactive to dogs that get too close on the same side of the street, requiring an owner who can create distance and set her up for success. Consistency and patience are key to building her confidence. She knows "sit," "down," and "wait."
