Gingersnap, also known as Ginger or Gingey, is a 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix who is the funniest, spunkiest, and most adorable little thing. We don't know her full backstory, but she was found as a stray in Houston and has clearly had puppies in the past. A shelter employee saw her potential and reached out to us, and we couldn't resist busting her out of the shelter right away!
Ginger is a friendly, confident, and playful girl with a low to medium energy level. She gets along wonderfully with most dogs, especially other young pups her size. She's currently living in a foster home with three other dogs and has a particular fondness for one of the boys, constantly trying to get him to play. It's quite a sight to see!
She is potty trained, crate trained, great in the car, and walks well on a leash. She enjoys sleeping in her crate at night and often uses it as a relaxing "zen den" during the day. Since her initial adjustment period, she's had very few accidents and shows no signs of separation anxiety when left alone. Her exercise routine is pretty low-maintenance, involving short neighborhood walks and playful zoomies with her canine companions.
Ginger is generally great with handling, but she can be startled if approached too suddenly, letting out a small shriek. However, she's becoming less startled as she gets more comfortable with her routine and people.
Ideal Home
Gingersnap would thrive in a home with another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both vigorous play and quiet time. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's confident and adaptable, a home without young children would be best due to her tendency to be startled.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and is expected to be ready for her forever home in September.
Training & Support
Gingersnap is potty trained and crate trained. Continuing to work on basic commands will be beneficial for her safety.
