About Poppy

Poppy is a young, female terrier mix, estimated to be born around December 17, 2019. She's a loving and playful girl who generally enjoys a calm demeanor. Poppy is house-trained and crate-trained, and is up-to-date on all her shots and vaccines. She's not a big barker, only letting out a sound when someone arrives at the door or when she hears people outside the fence. While not a lap dog, she appreciates gentle affection. Poppy has had limited experience with other dogs, initially showing fear towards a small neighbor dog. However, she has successfully stayed with a calm lab in another foster home and did well. She is excellent with cats and currently lives harmoniously with four of them! Poppy is very fearful of men, will bark, and try to distance herself, often retreating to her crate, which she views as her safe space. It's important to note she is not aggressive, just scared. She does take a few minutes to warm up to new women, but ultimately trusts them more than men. Poppy has been treated for heartworm and is now negative!

Ideal Home

Poppy would thrive in a home where her humans are patient and understanding, especially when introducing her to new people. A home with calm, adult dogs would be a good fit, and she has proven to be wonderful with cats. Her fear of men means a home with a confident female lead would be ideal, or a household where men can be introduced slowly and respectfully.

Ongoing Health

Poppy has been treated for heartworm and is now heartworm-negative.

Training & Support

Poppy is already house-trained and crate-trained. Her primary need for support is in building confidence around men, which requires patience and positive reinforcement. Women will find she warms up to them over a few minutes.
