Gingersnap, affectionately known as Ginger or Gingey, is a spunky and adorable 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix who brings endless amusement with her playful antics. She was found as a stray in Houston and, given her past, likely didn't have an easy life. Thankfully, a kind shelter employee saw her potential and reached out, leading to her rescue and a new chapter filled with love and care. Ginger is a friendly, confident, and low-to-medium energy companion who gets along well with most dogs, especially other small pups. She's formed a special bond with one of her foster siblings and loves initiating play sessions.
Ideal Home
Ginger would thrive in a home with another playful small dog, as she enjoys vigorous play and then relaxing. Due to her tendency to be startled, a home without young children would be ideal.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment, with her adoption possible in September after her treatment is complete.
Training & Support
She is house-trained, crate-trained, and walks well on a leash. She uses her crate as a peaceful retreat and shows no signs of separation anxiety. While she's great with handling, she can be startled if surprised, letting out a little shriek. This has lessened as she's become more comfortable in her foster home. Her adopter should be prepared to continue basic command training for her safety.
