Whiskey is a three-year-old dog who was born at BCAR. His littermates and mother were adopted long ago, but Whiskey had a severe case of Parvo. By the time he recovered, he was a big dog and was overlooked for adoption. He has received excellent care and extra love from BCAR volunteers, but he deserves his own home. A volunteer recently took Whiskey home for a couple of days and reported he was a perfect gentleman! While initially nervous about household noises like the dishwasher, he quickly learned to enjoy couch time. He had no accidents in the house, slept through the night, and enjoyed watching TV. A volunteer has also been working with Whiskey on beginning agility training, and you can see their progress in a YouTube video. Bob, who has been training Whiskey several times a week, describes him as highly intelligent with a distinct "personality." Whiskey is an energetic and loving companion when he greets volunteers in the office. During walks and field training, he is alert and ready for anything. At the dog park, he enjoys cooling off in the pool and is focused on agility tasks, responding well to commands like sit, stay, and come. While he can react to unfamiliar people and dogs if left to his own devices, he can remain calm on leash or when held and redirected. One of his favorite activities is climbing onto a picnic table to be nuzzled and have his neck and shoulders massaged. Bob describes Whiskey as a really good dog who needs time, training, compassion, and understanding.
