Meet Ernie, a charming 8-year-old Pittie/Cattle Dog mix who weighs around 63lbs. Ernie is a true gem who was found as a stray, thankfully rescued by his foster mom who saw him in a dangerous situation. Despite being microchipped, his previous owner chose not to reclaim him. Ernie was initially adopted from a county shelter in 2020 and clearly received love in his past home, as he was heartworm-negative and friendly to everyone he met. We're so excited for Ernie to find his forever family where he'll be cherished.
Ideal Home
Ernie is a social butterfly who loves being wherever his people are. He's been great with all humans and animals he's encountered, wagging his tail at other dogs and hoping for a friendly introduction. He's a gentle playmate and goes with the flow, even letting his much smaller foster sibling boss him around! Ernie is curious but not aggressive towards cats he's seen from a distance, and we believe he'd do well with feline friends who don't mind a friendly hello. While Ernie hasn't been around children, his gentle nature suggests he'd enjoy a family with kids, as long as they understand he's a bigger dog.
Ongoing Health
Ernie is heartworm-negative.
Training & Support
Ernie is house-trained and walks beautifully on a leash. He is not a fan of crates and will try to escape, but thankfully, he doesn't get destructive when left unsupervised. If he knows you're home while he's in his crate, he might whine or howl for a short period, but he can be calmed with a treat or verbal reassurance.
