Meet Murphy!
Murphy is a goofy and affectionate two-year-old, 70-pound Labrador Retriever mix whose floppy ears and golden coat are just the beginning of his charm. He greets life with playful energy and happy tail wags, often "talking" with little playful noises that make it feel like he's truly communicating with you. He thrives on long walks, breezy car rides, chew toys, and zoomies in the yard. Murphy is a smart pup who responds beautifully to clicker training and is eager to continue learning through positive reinforcement, having already mastered sit and lay down, with promising progress on stay and recall. He's wonderfully social with other dogs and would flourish in a home with a confident canine pal to show him the ropes and help him feel secure; doggy daycare is a favorite! At home, he settles into a steady routine, curling up for snuggles and quiet time.
Ideal Home
Murphy would thrive in a home with a calm, experienced pet parent who understands anxiety and reactivity and can continue supporting his confidence. A home without children is recommended. Slow introductions to new people and surroundings, along with consistency and gentle guidance, will help him blossom. He would also benefit from a home with a confident canine pal to help him feel secure.
Ongoing Health
Murphy has some anxiety, especially in unfamiliar or chaotic environments, and has shown fear-based behaviors when feeling trapped, resulting in three incidents where he nipped or bit. These moments stemmed from fear, not aggression. He benefits from a mindful diet, as it's suspected that chicken may contribute to his skin sensitivities, so it has been removed as a precaution. He receives regular soothing baths to keep his skin comfortable.
Training & Support
Murphy is working on his confidence and requires patient, consistent training with gentle guidance. He'll benefit from slow introductions to new people and environments.
