Toby is a handsome 6-1/2 year-old Basenji mix looking for a special home with an experienced adopter who understands dogs with fear-based behaviors. At home with the people he knows and trusts, Toby is affectionate, loyal, and loves being close to his family. He is a champion cuddler who will happily climb into your lap for pets and attention. One of his favorite activities is playing fetch in the yard with his beloved red ball. He also enjoys walks, where he can spend plenty of time following interesting scents with his nose to the ground. Toby is a lower-energy dog who enjoys outdoor play but is equally content relaxing in his bed for much of the day. He is house-trained, knows his routine well, and is highly food motivated. Cheese is his absolute favorite treat and can quickly win his attention and cooperation. Other favorite snacks include peppers, bananas, peanut butter, and meat. Despite his challenges, Toby has many wonderful qualities and has brought years of love and companionship to his family.
Ideal Home
Toby's ideal home would be a calm, structured environment with an experienced owner who understands canine body language and behavior. Toby would do best as the only pet in the home and should not live with cats, dogs, or small animals. Due to his behavioral history, a home without young children would be the safest fit.
