Shawnee is proof that sometimes the quietest dogs have the biggest hearts. Around 6 years old and just 30 pounds, Shawnee is looking for a home where she can finally exhale. Before rescue, Shawnee was abandoned in an apartment and eventually found herself on the euthanasia list at a Houston shelter. Thanks to a wonderful foster who stepped up just in time, she was given the chance to start over. Shawnee is naturally shy and takes a little time to trust new people. She'll need someone who understands that relationships don't have to be rushed; that patience, kindness, and a few tasty treats can go a long way. Once she feels safe, you'll begin to see the sweet girl who's been there all along, and it's worth the wait. She's house trained, crate trained, and has a serious weakness for treats despite being a smedium sized gal. She can be a little spicy at times and isn't afraid to let you know how she's feeling, but she's much more bark than bite and simply appreciates having her space respected. Once you get to know her, it's actually kind of funny because you know she wouldn't hurt a fly. She is being fostered with other dogs and does great with them. She is even starting to play and roll around in the grass, and we love to see it. Shawnee won't be the dog who runs into your arms on day one, but if you're willing to give her the time she needs, she'll spend the rest of her life showing you just how much it meant and will be your cuddly shadow. If you're looking for a companion who just needs a little extra love and a soft place to land, Shawnee might be exactly who you've been waiting for. We'd consider her medium energy, and even though she's a middle-aged gal, she still likes to go on adventures and play with toys.
