Max is a handsome 6-year-old, 71 lb Akita/Husky mix with one striking blue eye and a heart full of love. He's neutered, microchipped, vaccinated, and fully house-trained, with a perfect record in his foster home! Max truly embodies a zest for life; he's an intelligent and obedient boy who's always eager to learn and deeply connected to his people. He already knows many commands and quickly masters new ones, enjoying every moment he spends working with his handler. Max forms strong bonds with those who give him the time and space to feel comfortable. Once he feels secure, his wonderfully calm and happy personality truly blossoms.
Max's journey began when he was sadly abandoned at a kill shelter in NY, where he was unfortunately placed on the euthanasia list. He was understandably frightened at the shelter, hesitant about walks and unsure of the people around him. He would gently take treats, only to drop them and wait for the person to step away before enjoying them – a clear sign he longed to trust. Upon arriving at his foster home, Max began to show his trusting nature almost immediately, taking a treat directly from his foster's hand. His foster knew his trust would continue to grow, and it did! In just over a week, Max settled in, becoming more comfortable, calm, and happy to be around people. He loves his walks, exploring new environments, and going for car rides. Max also has a sweet, playful side and enjoys carrying his favorite toys, especially his beloved duck, avocado, and little mouse. He thrives with routine and enjoys relaxing in his crate after his adventures. While he may be a bit shy initially, once Max trusts you, he becomes an incredibly loyal and devoted companion.
