Loki is a 6.5-month-old male Retriever/Pit Bull mix who currently weighs 40 pounds and is expected to be a large dog when fully grown. He is being fostered in Houston, Texas. Wanda, his mom, who weighs approximately 55 pounds, is pictured in his profile. Loki is the fearless leader of his litter, always the first to explore new things and announce his presence with confidence and a sense of adventure. He loves to climb and play keep-away with his toys. While he's energetic, he's also beginning to settle into an incredible companion. He is potty trained, though a few accidents may occur as he adjusts to a new routine. Loki can be a little hesitant with new experiences but quickly overcomes it. He loves food and always makes sure to get his share. Despite his playful antics, Loki has a very sweet side and loves to cuddle. He enjoys people and other dogs and recently greeted adults and children happily at a community event. Loki has experience with crates, though he's not crated for extended periods due to his age. He has been around children, but his compatibility with cats is unknown. He is still learning leash skills and basic obedience.
Ideal Home
Loki is looking for a family committed to reinforcing good manners, building his confidence, and helping him mature. He would benefit from a home with another friendly, well-mannered dog to help mentor him. If you don't have another dog, please provide a plan for continued socialization, such as structured training classes, supervised daycare, or regular playdates. Homes where someone isn't routinely away for more than four to six hours at a time are preferred.
Ongoing Health
There are no specific health conditions mentioned for Loki.
Training & Support
Loki is potty trained but may have occasional accidents as he adjusts to a new home. He is eager to learn and is continuing to practice his leash skills and basic obedience. Ongoing positive reinforcement, consistency, and continued leash practice will help him thrive. Continued socialization with new people, places, sounds, and friendly dogs is crucial for his development.
