About Odie
Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love and a desire for a safe, understanding home. My life started out a bit rough, as I was found abandoned as a puppy. While my siblings found homes, I stayed with the person who loved me most. This early experience left me with some adult anxiety and fear, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it. I'm neutered and house-trained, and I'm currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety. I can be a little nervous with new people initially, but once I build trust, I form a deep and loyal bond. I'm incredibly gentle with the baby in my current home and have always been sweet with her. I haven't been around other children, so I would do best with older, dog-savvy kids. I've only met other dogs when boarded, and staff reported I did well, but I haven't lived with them. I am not a good match for cats. I'm a playful, smart boy who adores my toys. I get the zoomies, I know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I genuinely want to please. I just need a patient guide. My anxiety can manifest as protectiveness, and I might bark or growl at strangers, especially around my mom. The crate is also a challenge for me, and getting me inside can be difficult. When left alone, I do best with access to just one room. My family even used a baby monitor to help me feel secure. Since the baby arrived, I've been more stressed, sometimes acting out by getting into the trash or chewing on random objects. I'm not trying to be bad; I'm just overwhelmed and need help coping. My family loves me dearly but recognizes I need more dedicated time, structure, and confidence-building than they can currently provide. I would do best in a household without young children, ideally those under 14 years of age.
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors, can set clear boundaries with gentleness, and is not a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I need someone who will help me feel safe and not overwhelmed.
Ongoing Health
I am neutered and currently taking Reconcile for anxiety.
Training & Support
I am house-trained and know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake." My anxiety can lead to protectiveness and barking/growling at strangers. I struggle with crate training and can get into things when left alone or stressed. I have had a single bite incident when my owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman, and I turned and bit her hand. I would benefit greatly from training to help me relax around strangers and learn not to feel the need to defend the household.
