Otis

Meet Otis! This handsome 2-year-old, 50-pound American Staffordshire Terrier mix is neutered, fully vaccinated, and very ready for his happily-ever-after. Otis was adopted as a puppy and sadly returned to an overcrowded Houston shelter suffering from a severe skin condition. The good news? His foster has worked absolute magic, and he's now thriving with a shiny new coat he's extremely proud of and excited to show off. Otis is the definition of resilient and joyful. He's sweet, goofy, and loves people with his whole heart. If you stop petting him before he's ready, expect a gentle paw to grab your hand as a polite reminder to keep going. He is very attentive to positive reinforcement and genuinely wants to make his people happy. When it comes to other dogs, Otis is a social butterfly with great manners. He loves to play, takes cues beautifully, and is respectful of dogs who prefer their personal space. He currently lives with dogs of various sizes and does great with all of them. He can be a little shy when meeting new dog friends, but he warms up quickly and would absolutely love a doggy sibling in his forever home.

Ideal Home

Otis would do best in a moderately active home that also appreciates a good snuggle session. Due to his size and enthusiasm (he does like to jump), dog-savvy older children would likely be the best fit.

Ongoing Health

Otis was previously treated for a severe skin condition and is now thriving with a shiny new coat.

Training & Support

Otis is fully housebroken and potty trained. He is crate trained and sleeps in his crate overnight; while it's not his favorite place, he settles well especially if a Kong is involved. He has shown no signs of separation anxiety, destruction, food aggression, or resource guarding. He is fed separately just to keep things calm and easy. Otis hasn't been around cats, so we're unsure how he'd do with them. He walks like a dream on leash (with a little excited pulling at the start), loves car rides, and even enjoys bath time.

• Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
• Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved. If you are not able to accept a dog until a specific time period, please apply at that time.
• We are a volunteer-run rescue and donate our time to these dogs. If you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply. If someone other than yourself is part of the decision-making process, please make sure you have spoken with them and they are on board. We really do not want to waste anyone's time if you are not serious about adopting this dog.

Otis is located in Houston. Transports run every few weeks and we will have the dog on the next available transport once approved.
