At a glance
A little about them
Emilia is a sweet, 4-year-old Bichon Frise with a soft, curly white coat and a delightful helicopter tail wag. After spending her first four years in a barn as a breeding dog, she is learning how wonderful family life can be and needs patient, gentle people who will let trust develop at her pace.
She is cautious with new people and may retreat when overwhelmed, but her playful, joyful personality emerges when she feels safe. A calm, quiet home would suit her best. She enjoys other dogs and would benefit from a friendly, confident canine companion. She is comfortable with cats, and a home without young children is recommended; calm teens may be considered.
Emilia is house trained, sleeps quietly in her crate overnight, and can stay crated for a few hours when her family is away. She enjoys short walks of 20–30 minutes two or three times daily, walks politely on leash, and is generally quiet at home. She is still working on recall, sit, stay, and confidence-building, so positive reinforcement and patience are important.
Ideal Home
- A patient, gentle family willing to let Emilia approach at her own pace
- A calm, quiet household without young children; calm teens may be considered
- A friendly, confident dog companion would be a wonderful bonus
- A fenced yard or safe outdoor area for exploring and zoomies
- A consistent routine, bedroom crate, and plenty of reassurance
Ongoing Health
Emilia was underweight when she entered rescue and is expected to gain another 1–2 pounds. She has been spayed, vaccinated, microchipped, and received her other necessary veterinary care. She can be nervous at the vet but cooperates well during examinations. Regular veterinary visits and daily toothbrushing are recommended.
Her soft, curly double coat sheds very little but needs professional grooming every 4–6 weeks, regular brushing, and care to prevent tangles and matting.
Training & Support
Emilia is house trained, crate trained, and comfortable walking on leash without pulling. She is learning recall and basic commands, and responds to gentle verbal redirection. Post-adoption training is required, and basic obedience classes would help her continue building confidence and strengthening her bond with her family.
