About Penny
Meet Penny! She's a 2-year-old, 62-pound spayed female Shepherd/Husky mix with a bright spirit, a big heart, and a whole lot of love to give. Penny is a fun-loving, affectionate, and outgoing girl who thrives in an environment where she can stay active, engaged, and close to her people. She's curious, social, and always on the lookout for her next adventure or someone to cuddle. Penny is incredibly affectionate and emotionally tuned into her people; she loves to snuggle and will give love back tenfold once she feels safe and understood. Penny has likely experienced past trauma, as she flinches easily and shows signs of needing reassurance and calm, consistent care. Her ideal home will be one that provides structure, patience, and understanding, and that doesn't expect her to be perfect right away. With time and support, Penny will continue to blossom into a confident, loyal, and deeply devoted companion.
Ideal Home
Penny would do best in a home with older teens or adults who understand dog behavior and can help her channel her energy in positive ways. She would also thrive with confident, medium-to-large dogs who are comfortable setting healthy boundaries. A cat-free home is recommended due to prey-driven behavior observed outdoors. Penny is still learning to be fully comfortable with separation and prefers to be close to her people.
Ongoing Health
Penny is spayed and up to date on vaccinations.
Training & Support
Penny is fully house-trained and has done well when confined to a designated area when home alone, though she is still learning to be fully comfortable with separation. She has not been crate trained. She may whine or bark when separated, which stems from her deep bond with her humans. She can be trusted loose in the house when items are picked up and food is put away, but she has a tendency to chew on dog beds when bored. Penny can come on a little strong during play, especially with smaller or more timid dogs. She can be protective of her space and high-value items like food or toys around other dogs, which is managed in her foster home through mealtime and treat separation. These are manageable behaviors that respond well to clear boundaries and respectful management.
