Meet Bentley, a brilliant and charming boy who is ready to find his perfect match! Bentley is a "house hippo" with a brain to match, and he thrives on clear expectations, consistency, and confident leadership. He has spent time in structured training and is now off-leash trained, e-collar trained, and knows commands like "leave it," "wait," "with," "here," and his personal favorite, "go sniff." He has been diligently learning to focus, regulate himself, and remain calm in a structured environment.
Ideal Home
Bentley would love a home where someone is present more often than not. He needs a clean, dog-proofed home because he is quite clever and can open doors and cabinets! His ideal home will be one that is willing to continue using structure and commands daily, and an adopter who understands his need for consistent training. While he is doing well, it's important to note that Bentley may require continued e-collar training or a lifestyle that is very structured and home-based. Walks should be viewed as focused training time rather than opportunities for distractions. Bentley does not do well with cats or small animals. For canine companions, he prefers calm, low-energy dogs that don't engage in constant play. High-energy dogs, like Labs, are not the best fit for his peaceful environment.
Ongoing Health
Bentley does not have any specific ongoing health conditions mentioned.
Training & Support
Bentley can become leash reactive if allowed to be, which is why handler awareness and structure are paramount. He excels when given direction and stays engaged with his handler. He does very well when left out in the home, provided he doesn't have access to the kitchen. Bentley experiences kennel anxiety for about 30 minutes and has been known to break out of standard wire crates. If crating is necessary, he will require a high-anxiety, escape-proof kennel.
