Meet Alani, a sweet six-year-old Border Collie German Shepherd mix. Alani joined us when her previous guardian could no longer care for her. She's been wonderful with children of all ages and has a history of peacefully coexisting with cats, even from different living spaces. Alani is described as very sweet and enjoys gentle interactions. While she hasn't lived with other dogs before, she's met some here and prefers to take her time getting to know them, rather than jumping right into play. A home with another dog might be a good fit, but any resident pups should meet Alani at the shelter first.
Alani has been enjoying sleepovers with a volunteer and has shown herself to be a well-behaved companion. She loves car rides and sits politely in the back seat. She walks nicely past other dogs, both big and small, in public. She's been very respectful of the senior cat she met during her sleepover and has kept herself off the furniture, always going potty outside. Alani is also comfortable being home alone and enjoys a good snooze. She might offer an alert bark when someone arrives at the door, like a delivery person, but otherwise settles nicely.
Ideal Home
Alani would likely thrive in a home where she can settle into a calm coexistence with any resident dogs.
Ongoing Health
As a senior dog, Alani may benefit from more frequent veterinary visits to ensure she stays in great health. Our clinic team is available to discuss her current and future medical needs with potential adopters.
Training & Support
Alani is a well-behaved girl, but may sometimes offer an alert bark. She's also confirmed to go potty outside and stay off furniture. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is offering a $200 “Pawsitivity Bucks” training voucher with her adoption to help you get started with a positive reinforcement trainer.
