Coffee is a 3-year-old spayed female Chihuahua mix weighing 12.5 pounds. She's a sweet girl who is a bit of a paradox: she loves to snuggle but also has a high energy level. Coffee can be a bit of a handful when excited, sometimes jumping or nipping, but she also loves to cuddle up on a lap once she's settled. She's been housebroken and is generally a good passenger in the car, sitting quietly. She does need a little work with crate training at home, as she's not a fan.
Ideal Home
Coffee would thrive in a quiet home with very few guests. She needs adopters who understand her cautious nature with new people and are willing to give her the time and space she needs to build confidence. While she enjoys her current foster home with other dogs, she's not a fan of unfamiliar dogs or felines and can exhibit aggressive behaviors towards them. Due to her size, mouthing behaviors, and her slow adjustment period, a home with children aged 13 and up is recommended. A fenced yard would be a bonus, but not essential, as long as adopters are prepared to limit her space when unsupervised if a yard isn't available.
Ongoing Health
Coffee takes 10mg of Clomipramine twice daily. This medication helps manage her compulsive digging and guarding behaviors.
Training & Support
Coffee can be a bit of a puller and can become aggressive on leash if she sees other dogs or cats. She is also barrier aggressive and may bite new people. She needs adopters who are patient and understand her need for space and time to warm up to new individuals. Her energetic excitement can manifest as nipping, so redirecting this behavior will be important.
