Diesel is a charming 8-month-old black and tan smooth coat male who weighs about 9.5 lbs. He came to us from West Tennessee due to his previous owner's job constraints. Diesel is a social butterfly who quickly warms up to new people and is eager to shower you with kisses and cuddles. He's a bundle of energy who loves to play, and a home with another young, small dog or a gentle medium-sized dog would be perfect for him to romp with. When he's not playing, Diesel enjoys his alone time, entertaining himself with toys or doing zoomies around the yard. He also loves to snuggle, often draping himself over his foster sister or nudging his way under his foster mom's arm for attention. Once he decides you're his person, he'll shower you with affection.
Ideal Home
Diesel needs a home with a fenced yard. He would do best in a home with another young, small dog or a gentle medium-sized dog for companionship and play. Because dachshunds can be barkers, he cannot be adopted to anyone living in an apartment, high-rise, or condo. He would prefer a home where someone is present most of the time. He is not recommended for homes with children under the age of 10. He cannot live with cats.
Ongoing Health
Diesel has some extra cartilage in one of his ears, which just adds to his cuteness! He is up-to-date on all vaccinations and has been neutered. He is on monthly heartworm prevention.
Training & Support
Diesel is mostly housetrained and does well when taken out on a schedule or if he has access to a doggy door. He can sleep through the night without needing to go out. He has had occasional accidents if not on a schedule. Like many dachshunds, he tends to dribble a little urine when excited, but this is happening less frequently. He is working on leash training. He is somewhat crate trained. His foster family has found it necessary to use gates and provide ramps or steps for him to access the couch due to his tendency to jump.
