Meet Bear! This big boy weighs in at 110lbs and is fully vetted. Bear is a very typey dog for his breed, and his original breeder was contacted but unfortunately could not take him back. Bear was an owner surrender due to a medical crisis his human dad experienced, which made it impossible for him to continue caring for Bear. Though he was rehomed privately, that home was not the right fit. Bear's original owner ensured he was well-cared for with vaccinations, quality food, and plenty of toys. He even went through professional training, but it wasn't consistently maintained as he grew into a big adolescent. This meant Bear missed out on some crucial socialization, mental and physical stimulation, and further training needed to be a well-adjusted adult.
Ideal Home
Bear is looking for a home with someone who has training experience and experience with guardian breeds or Rottweilers. He needs an adopter who is willing to continue working with him under the guidance of a professional trainer who aligns with our philosophies. Because Bear is a big, strong dog who can sometimes make impulsive decisions, his adopter must be physically capable of handling him if he pulls on the leash. He does not do well in the heat. For now, a home without cats, small dogs, or other small animals is recommended due to his prey drive. A home without young children is also advised, as he has had negative reactions to small kids when out on walks.
Ongoing Health
Bear is fully vetted. He is currently undergoing muzzle training due to some fear reactivity at the vet and during nail trims, which will help ensure these experiences can be worked through safely.
Training & Support
Bear is currently being fostered by a trainer and has made significant progress. He still has some adolescent behaviors and can be a bit forward with other dogs during introductions, though he is improving. He can occasionally "steal" items not meant for dogs, such as dishtowels or shoes, but he is learning "leave it" and "out" commands. He thrives with structure, routine, repetition, and reinforcement, and needs firm but kind guidance. He has vastly improved from being jumpy and mouthy with stimulation and now reliably offers a calm behavior instead.
