Duke Ellington is the embodiment of pure joy in dog form! This happy-go-lucky boy is all smiles, wiggles, and boundless enthusiasm. He wakes up every day excited to be alive and makes sure everyone around him feels the same way. With his goofy, bouncy personality, a giant happy grin, and the way he throws his whole body into showing affection, Duke has a larger-than-life presence that's impossible to resist. He's playful, affectionate, hilariously expressive, and possesses a lovable, goofy energy that will keep you entertained. He truly feels like your overly enthusiastic best friend trapped in a pittie-boxer mix body! And yes, his name is Duke Ellington because he genuinely believes he has a singing career ahead of him, blessing you with dramatic opera performances whenever the mood strikes.

Duke Ellington is believed to be a pit bull/boxer mix, approximately 2 years old and weighing around 50 lbs.

Ideal Home

Duke thrives with a semi-active family that wants a dog to be a true part of their everyday lives and appreciates a big personality. A backyard is essential for him to zoom around, play, burn energy, and occasionally perform his famous concerts. He needs a home where he won't be left alone for long stretches, so apartment living is not ideal due to his impressive vocal talents. He will do best with dog friends who enjoy an active, playful style and won't be overwhelmed by his enthusiasm.

Ongoing Health

Duke is up-to-date on all vetting, including DAPP with booster, Bordetella, Rabies vaccine, multiple broad-spectrum deworming treatments, flea prevention, and a 12-month heartworm preventative injectable. He has also had a heartworm test.

Training & Support

Duke knows how to sit and is treat-motivated, enjoying learning and engaging with his people. He is crate trained and potty trained. He can pull on the leash out of excitement, so continued leash work will help him polish his manners. He will thrive with structure, routine, exercise, and consistency.

• The adoption fee is $1,000 and includes extensive vetting, microchip with free lifetime registration, a Martingale collar, health certificate for travel, and transport costs.
• Adopters receive special perks including behavioral testing information, discounts on DNA tests, pet insurance trial, free dog training sessions, and more.

Transporation

Duke is located in our Texas-based facility. We facilitate adoptions nationwide using our rescue-run USDA-certified transport system, ensuring every pet travels safely and comfortably with 24/7 care. Drop-off locations include WA, UT, OR, ID, VA, PA, OH, NY, CT, VT, TN, KY, WI, MN, IL, WI, and Canada (pickup in Bellingham, WA, Buffalo, NY, or Brattleboro, VT for Canadian adopters). You will have the opportunity to track their journey in real time. Please note there is an $87 surcharge for transportation. Texas adopters must pick up from the Houston area.
