Wile is a wonderfully sweet and gentle boy with a heart full of love to give! He's estimated to be a senior dog, born around May 17, 2019, and arrived with us at 40 pounds, though he's working his way up to a healthy 50 pounds. Wile had a tough start and struggled greatly in a shelter environment, even self-harming due to extreme stress. Thankfully, he was rescued and is now on anxiety medication, Clomicalm, which helps manage his stress. He's a work in progress, learning the ropes of being a beloved companion pet, but his core is solid, and he's eager to please his person. Wile thrives on love and attention and is incredibly loving in return.
Ideal Home
Wile cannot be crated or confined due to a severe crate/kennel phobia. He needs a home where someone works from home or can take him to work, as he experiences separation anxiety and needs to have a human present most of the time. He would also do best in a home without young children, as he requires an adopter who can give him their complete focus. Due to his husky heritage, we wouldn't trust him with cats, small dogs, or rabbits.
Ongoing Health
Wile underwent a dental procedure upon arrival. He is currently on anxiety medication (Clomicalm) to help him adjust, but this is not intended to be a lifetime requirement and can be slowly weaned off with veterinary support once he is settled.
Training & Support
Wile is approximately 90% housetrained but may have accidents if not given enough time to finish his business or if left unsupervised. He also has a tendency to investigate counters, so keeping them clear of temptation is advised. While he doesn't bark at the door when people pass by or when the doorbell rings, he does get excited. His leash skills need work as he tends to walk very close to his person. He also has a tendency to be opinionated when other pets approach his favorite person. He can easily clear a 4-foot baby gate, so secure fencing is important if he is in a yard.
