About Penny
Meet Penny, a delightful 2-year-old, 62-pound spayed female Shepherd/Husky mix with a bright spirit and a heart full of love to give! Penny is a fun-loving, affectionate, and outgoing girl who thrives in an environment where she can stay active, engaged, and close to her people. She's curious, social, and always on the lookout for her next adventure or someone to cuddle with. Penny has experienced past trauma and can flinch easily, showing a need for reassurance and calm, consistent care. Her ideal home will provide structure, patience, and understanding, without expecting perfection right away. With time and support, Penny will blossom into a confident, loyal, and deeply devoted companion.
Ideal Home
Penny would do best in a home with older teens or adults who understand dog behavior and can help her channel her energy positively. She needs a home that can meet her where she is, providing the time, structure, and love she deserves. A cat-free home is recommended due to prey-driven behavior observed outdoors. She enjoys the company of other dogs, ideally confident, medium-to-large dogs who are comfortable setting healthy boundaries, as she is still learning dog social etiquette and can be a bit strong with smaller or more timid dogs.
Ongoing Health
Penny is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations.
Training & Support
Penny is fully house-trained and is learning to be comfortable with separation, though she prefers to be close to her people and may whine or bark when left alone. She has not been crate trained. She can be trusted loose in the house when items are put away, but she does have a soft spot for chewing on dog beds when bored. Penny can be protective of her space and high-value items around other dogs, so mealtime and treat time require management. These are manageable behaviors that respond well to clear boundaries and respectful management. Leash walks are a favorite activity, and she settles in with guidance. She is smart and eager to please but needs an adopter who will go at her pace and give her time to relax into a routine.
Application Details:
- Applications start by contacting us through Wags.
- Please ensure all decision-makers in your household are on board before applying.
- If you are not serious about moving forward in our adoption process, please do not apply, as we are a volunteer-run rescue.
Transporation
Penny is currently in San Antonio, Texas. She can be transported out of state once an approved adopter is lined up. Transports run every few weeks, and she will be on the next available transport once approved.
