CALVIN - From the Park to Your Heart

****We are Pets Are Worth Saving (P.A.W.S) – Stephenville, TX - We are a small, foster based animal rescue, 501(c)3 non-profit organization, based out of Stephenville, TX. We work to rehabilitate and rehome unwanted cats and dogs in Stephenville and surrounding towns. We have recently expanded our scope to include Hamilton County, TX and are currently working with the City of Hamilton and the Hico Police Department to find loving foster and permanent homes for dogs that have been abandoned and have ended up in the Hamilton Pound or the Hico Animal Shelter.

Pets Are Worth Saving (P.A.W.S.)’s mission is to sponsor low cost spay/neuter and wellness exams, provide community education and provide food and supplies to those in need. We also do our best to find loving homes for abandoned, neglected, or abused animals. Our animals are vaccinated and on preventatives. Animals older than six months are spayed or neutered.

We are in Texas, and we transport our dogs North because Texas is overflowing with unwanted dogs.

🧡 Meet Calvin: A Gentle, Silent Soul Ready for His Guide They say you can't buy loyalty, but you can certainly adopt it. Calvin was found waiting patiently at the Hico City Park a few weeks ago. While his past owners never came looking for him, this magnificent 1-year-old Red Heeler mix hasn't let heartbreak dampen his spirit. He is, quite simply, a "huge love" trapped in a confusing situation.

We recently discovered two very important things about Calvin: he is much younger than we originally thought (just a 70-pound teenager!), and Calvin is completely deaf.

The shelter is a loud, chaotic place for any dog, but for Calvin, navigating it in total silence is terrifying. He doesn't understand why he is there, yet despite his confusion, his deeply affectionate, loving nature shines through every single day.

🌟 Why Calvin is a Hidden Gem The Gentle Giant: At 70 lbs, he is a big, handsome boy, but he is mostly calm and content to lounge by your side. Don't let his mellow side fool you, though—he is still a puppy at heart and loves a good play session!

A Friend to All: Calvin is a rare find! He is wonderful with other dogs and has shown a very "chill," respectful attitude toward cats so far. He just wants everyone to get along.

Leash Manners: Calvin is already a great partner on walks and handles himself beautifully on a leash.

Fully Vetted: He is neutered, microchipped, heartworm negative, and fully up-to-date on all vaccinations. He is ready to leave the shelter today.

🏡 Understanding Calvin’s Silent World (His Ideal Home) Because Calvin cannot hear, he experiences the world through sight, touch, and vibration. He needs an understanding, patient adopter who is ready to learn the rewarding language of hand signals and positive reinforcement.

A Patient, Mindful Environment: Because he cannot hear you approach, Calvin can get startled if someone sneaks up on him or touches him unexpectedly while he's resting. When he gets spooked, his natural herding instincts kick in and he may give a typical Heeler "nip." Because of this, he needs a home with adults or savvy teenagers who understand how to respect his space and approach him visually.

Livestock Unknown: We aren't sure how he feels about livestock just yet. Given his herding breed and size, a slow, managed introduction would be required if you live on a farm.

A True Shadow: Deaf dogs form an unbreakable, incredibly deep bond with their people. Calvin will look to you as his visual guide, his safety net, and his best friend.

⏱️ Don't Let Him Wait in the Dark Calvin has spent enough time wondering where he belongs. He is a good, sweet boy who is dealing with a world he cannot hear, in a place that is too loud for his gentle soul. He is looking for a family that will promise to never leave him behind again.
