About Odie
Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound handsome Rottweiler mix who is looking for a safe, understanding, and supportive home to call my own. My early days were a bit rough, as I was found on the side of the road as a tiny puppy. While my siblings found their homes, I stayed with the person who meant the most to me. Because of that start, I've carried some anxiety and fear into adulthood, but I promise I'm working hard every day to overcome it!
I'm already neutered and house-trained, and I'm currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety. Being neutered has been a big help for me! I can be a bit nervous around new people at first, but once I build trust with you, I become incredibly loyal and loving. I've shown myself to be very gentle with the baby in my current home (she's five months old) and have always been sweet with her. Since I haven't been around other children much, I would do best with older, dog-savvy kids. I haven't lived with other dogs, though I reportedly did well when boarded. I am not a good match for homes with cats. I'm a playful, smart boy who absolutely adores my toys. I get the zoomies, know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I genuinely want to please! I just need someone who understands how to guide me.
My anxiety can show itself in different ways. I might be a little protective of my favorite people, especially my mom, and may bark or growl at strangers who approach her. I also find crates quite scary, and getting me inside can be a challenge. When I'm left alone, I do best with access to just one room. My family even set up a baby monitor so they could talk to me and help me feel secure! Since the arrival of the baby, I've been a bit more stressed and have sometimes gotten into things like the trash or other random objects. Please know, I'm not trying to be naughty – I'm just feeling overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. My family has tried their best, but with the new baby and my increasing anxiety, they know I need someone who can offer me more time, structure, and confidence than they can provide right now.
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who is patient, steady, and confident. Someone who understands fear-based behaviors and can establish clear boundaries while remaining gentle. I wouldn't be a good fit for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I need someone who will help me feel safe, not overwhelmed. Given my sensitivities, I would do best in a household without young children under 14 years of age.
Ongoing Health
I am neutered and house-trained. I am currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety.
Training & Support
I can be protective and may bark or growl at strangers. I also struggle with crates and can get into things when overwhelmed or left alone. My current family notes that I can become overstimulated and redirect, and I have had a single bite incident. My owner was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman, and I turned and bit her hand. I would do best going to a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and do not need to defend the household.
